Difficulté ou impossibilité éprouvée par une personne d'évacuer les matières fécales. Beaucoup de constipations enfantines sont des constipations d'opposition (MOUNIER, Traité du caractère, 1946, p. 539) :
• Il était humilié d'une constipation malsaine que coupaient des coliques précipitées.
